KOSTÜM POP UP: CYDNEY NERO HANDMADE BAGS
During September we will be having two fantastic Pop Ups hosting local artists & entrepreneurs!
Saturday, September 9th and Sunday September 10th from 1-6pm each day we will have Cydney Nero Popping Up with her handmade bags! Each bag is customized and uniquely designed. All of a the fabric she uses is thrifted and has been re-purposed! Talk about being in line with our ideals around repurposing pre-loved clothing!
As always we will have free refreshments. Follow KOSTÜM on Instagram @kostumonpiedmont and on Facebook to find out more!
In order to get to know Cydney a bit better we asked her a few questions, and here’s what we learned:
1. What do you do for work?
I am a teaching artist, currently working with Oakland elementary schools.
2. How did you get to that point in your career?
After getting a BFA in Illustration, I went straight into teaching and making art with children.
3. What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about teaching an inspiring children through art.
4. What feeds you creatively?
Kids feed me creatively by showing new ways to look at something. I am always inspired by their ingenuity after learning about a new tool/material. I also enjoy finding materials, and altering them to create a new use or look, like printing or dyeing fabric.
5. What is one of your favorite aspects of Oakland (or area of the Bay in which you live)?
My favorite aspect of Oakland is the multiculturalism of the town as well as the abundant art and music scene. I think Lake Merritt is my favorite place to enjoy this beautiful community.
6. How do you feel most connected to Oakland (whether it’s the people, culture, environment, etc.)?
I love being a part of First Fridays whether I’m selling my bags or just walking around. I think that’s when I feel the most connected to Oakland culture.
7. How is fashion a part of your daily life?
Fashion is a big part of my daily life. I love to express myself by putting certain colors and patterns together, as well as using jewelry and accessories to enhance the look. When designing and making bags, I am also thinking about fashion and how the bag might add to an outfit or complete a style.
8. What do you hope Kostümers walk away with after seeing or purchasing your products?
I hope Kostumers can walk away with my products feeling chic, inspired, and confident.
